On a secret base tucked into desert mountains, the government hides a machine capable of transforming the entire world into anything the user desires. Training operatives called Machine Monks to attune their mind to a single idea, they run experiments on the enigmatic Actuator using dampeners to limit the affected area. Creating small fantasy or science fiction realms, they explore the potential of this amazing device.
During one of the biggest experiments, with over twenty different genre ideas being fed simultaneously into the computer, a saboteur dismantles the dampeners. Suddenly they plunge the world into chaos and transform the landscape into a patchwork of every favorite fiction.
As whimsy and terror begin claiming lives in staggering numbers, a few surviving Machine Monks band together to try to set the world right again. Traveling to realms where aliens, pirates, and vampires threaten to destroy them, they work to recover the Actuator—a task made much more difficult since a dragon claimed it for her own.
