How do you hide from a psychic serial killer?
Tara Simmons has always had psychic abilities for as long as she can remember. And she’s suffered from night terrors where a shadowy man pursues her. The Shadow Man found her once before when she was sixteen years old and slaughtered her parents. And now, nine years later, he’s found her again.
The Shadow Man is killing people as he works his way closer to Tara. She can see the murders through his eyes, the clues left behind, and he wants it that way. He takes things from each victim: blood, skin, and other items he needs for his bizarre ritual. But it’s all leading up to the most important and central piece of his ritual – Tara.
Tara wants to run, she wants to hide – it’s what she’s always done. But she makes a decision to fight back and stop the Shadow Man before he kills again.
What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I’ve always loved to write a mixture of horror and mystery. This is really more of a mystery/thriller rather than horror. But there are some horrific murders in the book.
But like with all of my books, I get an idea and I let it grow in the back of my mind for a while until I have to get an outline down on paper and start writing the first draft.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
This book definitely started with the character of Tara. I wondered what life would be like for a person suffering from crushing night terrors and anxiety. Could she ever have a relationship? Could she ever have a normal life? Could she find the strength to fight back when the killer who murdered her parents finally caught up to her again?
Tara suffers from terrible night terrors, sleepwalking episodes, psychic visions, and panic attacks. But I wanted her to be tough in spite of all of these disorders; she has learned to live with them and survive. But she learns to be stronger and tougher when the Shadow Man finds her again.
I’ve been writing since the second grade when my teacher called my parents in for a conference because the ghost story I’d written had her a little concerned. By the time I was fourteen years old I was reading every Stephen King book I could find in the public library. I was hooked – I knew I had to be a writer.
Since then I’ve had several stories published and four screenplays optioned by producers in Hollywood. I’ve written four novels and a collection of short stories (Ancient Enemy, Descendants of Magic, The Summoning, Night Terrors, Ghost Town: a novella, and A Dark Collection: 12 Scary Stories) all of which are available on Amazon/Kindle. I’m a member of the Horror Writers Association.
I grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, and then after many travels and adventures, I settled down in Tampa, Florida with my wonderful wife and son, and a stray cat we adopted. I’m busy working on my next novels.
